Fred Funk set to defend title at 2008 Mayakoba Classic
With the 2008 Mayakoba Classic just days away and many of the participants eliminating themselves from the tournament without having hit a shot, 2008 Mayakoba Classic betting has decided it may be time to take a closer look at last year’s tournament winner Fred Funk.
When Fred Funk won the 2007 Mayakoba Classic he became only the second player over the age of 50 ever to have won on the PGA tour. Whilst many thought this achievement would be Funk’s swansong, recent form indicates that he has a good chance of retaining his title.
Recognised as one of the straightest drivers in the modern game, Fred Funk has already won on the Champions Tour in 2008, and recently won the 2008 Mastercard Championship held in Hawaii. He followed this tournament win off with a good performance at the PGA tour’s Sony Open where he achieved a joint 10th place finish.
With Fred Funk having won three of his eight PGA titles since he turned 45, this late bloomer will stand a decent chance of holding on to his title. His strongest challenge in the 2008 Mayakoba Classic is likely to come from bookmaker’s favourite, Joe Durant, who recently finished 6th at the Buick Open.
