Youth vs. Experience at the 2008 Mayakoba Classic
With a massive spate of withdrawals, the 2008 Mayakoba Classic will be introducing a host of new talent to the Mexican jewel in the PGA crown. Poor scheduling has seen the 2008 Mayakoba Classic put into direct competition with the 2008 Accenture Match Play Championships, effectively straining the top 50 golfers in the world out of the Mayakoba classic.
With golf’s top players occupied elsewhere, a host of PGA stalwarts who have been down on their luck will be left to scrap it out with a host of PGA rookies and former greats on the sculptured courses of El Cameleon on the Riviera Maya.
Golf fans can look forward to some unusual, but intriguing contests in the course of the 2008 Mayakoba Classic. Last year’s winner, Fred Funk, will once again be competing in the tournament and looking to protect both his title and his record at the oldest player to win on the PGA tour against the likes of Greg Norman and a resurgent Nick Price.
With the 2008 Mayakoba Classic cycling through a series of pre-tournament favourites only to seem them make late withdrawals, Olin Browne has been left standing as the tournament favourite. With excellent driving skills and accuracy Browne is well placed to navigate the treacherous water hazards of the El Cameleon golfcourse and wrest the 2008 Mayakoba Classic title from Fred Funk.
